Book Writer – Barkley’s Great Escape

Children's Book, Barkley's Great Escape
Barkley’s Great Escape

This page provides a description of the children’s book, Barkley’s Great Escape. Purchase your copy from BarkleysCompany, our exclusive online store. A story about a about a Labrador Retriever named Barkley.

Barkley, a beautiful yellow lab, finds a way to sneak out of his lot. At first, he has fun exploring. But, the neighbor’s  swimming pool enticed him to take a dip.

Unfortunately, his good time comes to an end when he cannot find the steps to get back out. Barkley’s situation opens up great discussion with children about water safety and following rules.

The book targets children ages 4-8 years old.

The book receives good feedback from classroom teachers and media specialists and includes a list of ways to take care of a pet. As a book writer and educator, I added teaching strategies that I hope will be helpful in the classroom.

I hope that you enjoy reading it.

Caring Tips
• Don’t leave me by myself too long. I miss you when you are gone.
• Try to spend some time with me every day.
• I need your help to keep me from getting too hot or too cold. Make sure that I have a good place to stay when the weather is extreme.
• Take care of my health. I can’t tell you when I am sick. Observe my behavior.
• I love for you to talk with me.
• I like to go with you to new places and to visit people.
• I get excited when you come to play. Sometimes, I forget and jump toward your face. I just want to let you know that I care about you.
• I love to learn. You can teach me how to sit, fetch, and do other things. I don’t understand your words, but I will try to learn.
